"This is one proper curio... It’s hard to explain quite how out-there this stuff is. It’s fascinating, captivating, and once you’ve started listening it’s hard to stop. I don’t know what makes them so compelling, but these three recordings are really something else." Neil Mason, Moonbuilding Weekly, Issue 58 / 21 March 2025
Merry-Go-Round, released on limited edition cassette/digital through Preston Capes, comprises three long-form tracks based on tape loop explorations manipulated and accompanied by modular synthesis. 5-second quotes taken from rearranged pieces by Bach, Stravinsky and Beethoven are recorded directly to tape loops. Becoming unrecognisable as they are abstracted from the original compositional context, the loops infiltrate and inhabit the modular system which in turn deconstructs and destroys them. Saturation, wow and flutter are omnipresent in the sound world just as overtones, modulations and space treatments punctuate it.
